WE CAN TRY

I know that nobody likes to think of a time when they will no longer exist, but sadly (or not) it is an inevitable future for every one that walks this earth. People however, blindly forget this in their quest for wealth, fame and power. They forget that one day, all of this will no longer exist and neither will they.

I think the following questions should be hidden in everyone's subconscious: what memory do i want people to have of me after i am gone, will it be someone that just lived once upon a time or someone that lived, made a positive difference and continues to live in the hearts of those they touched directly or indirectly? Questions like if I decide to have kids, what memories do I want my children and the generation next to have of me? You know, those kinda positive questions, but the truth is some people can't be bothered or simply dont care about all of that.

Our governments have over time inherited messups of the preceding administrations and also contributed their quota to the heap of "messups" and they continue to pass it on, but I really do wish that one day, a new administration will take on the reins of power and decide that "enough is enough! One that would share in my thoughts that this country has to change for the better!" This seems so easy to state but then it occurs to me that fixing a country is not just the job of one man/administration, but of every citizen of that country. Yes, every citizen has a part to play in changing the state of a nation. But key questions arise-How can I play my part when i dont have a job? How can I play my part without enough food on my table, without enough money, without security of any kind? I know those are some of the questions running through most of our minds and frankly I dont have the answers myself. Those that have the money (money is the solution to a lot of things you know, let's be honest) or means to even try to make a difference are afraid. They are afraid of the reactions of some "seen and unseen forces" this is because a lot of our people have the mindset of not wanting the other person to succeed. Our people just seem to dislike themselves and they often don't have a reason for that (who does that?!). In fact, if you try to help someone they kill you! if "they" know you have and you don't help, they kill you (methaphorically speaking)! And please dont get me wrong o, I know that a lot of people do try their best, but won't it be a whole lot better if we were all trying? There is also the competition aspect, where we try to compare ourselves to others, forgeting that everyone has their own strengths and shortcomings, forgetting that to every season there is a time.....

Our government on the other hand, is in shambles, "they" can't fix themselves let alone fix our country. They are running a rat race of who has the most power and who can fight the most, terrorizing each other and "nacking maces" (or how do they even say it?) on people's heads ( by the way, I'm referring to the Rivers house of assembly incident plus did they ever arrest that guy though? i mean the guy with the mace) and encouraging bad behaviour. Just look at the entourage that went with "Mr. President" to China recently. Imagine the number of hungry mouths that would have benefited from those excesses... "these people" are all about amassing wealth and ruining our lives on a daily basis and if we don't help ourselves things will only get worse. My friend says Nigeria will be better, that they have seen it, and i believe them. My issue with that is how long will it take before it actually gets better? I ask because I want to be here when it does happen. Yet I would reiterate 'we all have a part to play for it to get better.' Where do we even start from with all of the hardships we are facing? Honestly, I do not know, but how about we start with changing that negative mindsets most of us have about our "beloved" country and collectively bring our country back to a new beginning? How about we start that change now? Let's stop wishing the government will do for us and let's start doing for ourselves! Let's all make beautiful memories for generations to come but then again, TALK IS CHEAP and we are not magicians but I think we can try.....
