Even before Cory Monteith's cause of death was announced, there was this gut feeling I had, that it had something to do with drugs. I mean, 31 year old men do not randomly drop dead on a good day. What's with celebs and their self destructive habits though? even our local celebs are following the same trend it would seem. It is good to know however, that the NDLEA has "allegedly" started looking into the cases of our homegrown ones at least. Turns out that the top reasons these celebs or even people generally do drugs are;boredom, because other celebs are doing it, to feel cool/good, to escape from problems (which by the way are still there when their head is clear) and in Nigeria more importantly, to exude "hardness" (whatever that means). These reasons all seem pointless at the end of the day though and maybe it goes beyond that, but I guess I'll never understand. I'm yet to know of a positive side effect of taking drugs or is/are there any that I obviously don't know about? maybe from medical marijuana? since it evidently helps people cope with chemo treatments (I'm guessing that counts for a positive effect). Maybe if I lived my whole life in front of the media like they do, I'd even try some? at the end of the day though, they get addicted, get sick, get into rehab ( they tried that with Amy Winehouse, she said no no no! needless to say, we know how that ended) and if they're unfortunate enough, they never recuperate from the damages of those drugs or worse, they are found one day, lifeless on the floor of some hotel room or in a bath tub never to live again......leaving friends, families, lovers, children and even enemies behind.
I am far from being a saint, but I do know this; hard drug and its "relatives" are never good for anyone. They are destructive habits and very hard to break and if you need help, please get help! That being said, R.I.P Cory Monteith......
